The COHIBA project has published an electronic glossary of terms related to hazardous substance management and chemicals safety. The glossary has been developed as a tool to explain approximately 300 terms used in the European Union to the new EU member states in the Eastern Baltic Sea Region and Russia. The EU terminology and the explanations have been translated from English to Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Russian and Polish.
Concepts of hazardous substance regulation and management are different in the EU and Russia. The glossary aims to develop a common understanding of both systems of Russia and the EU by comparing the related terms to each other. This comparison is available in Russian and English.
The Russian part of the glossary was developed with financial support of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety of Germany within a project “Capacity-building on chemicals management in North West Russia”.
