The 5th Nexogenesis project expert meeting was successfully held in Riga on 02.10.2024. We gathered stakeholders from Latvia and Lithuania, along with international project partners from the Netherlands, Spain, and Germany. The event focused on the theme: “Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem (WEFE) Nexus: Policy Assessment and Governance Roadmap for the Lielupe River Basin.”
During the workshop, we updated participants on the project’s progress and activities in our case study of the Lielupe River Basin area. We also summarized the assessment of stakeholder involvement and had fruitful discussions afterward. The central theme of our work with the experts was the improvement of the Nexogenesis tool – NEPAT.
The NEPAT is an interactive online solution designed to enhance understanding of the nexus and support stakeholder dialogue about WEFE interlinkages and policymaking. The tool incorporates various functionalities to:
- Apply and simulate the impact and implications of case study-related policies.
- Monitor and evaluate the policies’ impacts across different WEFE goals and indicators under various future scenarios.
- Obtain policy advice to achieve WEFE goals.
Our workshop was the first time the tool’s features were demonstrated, explored and tested with potential users. Policy makers at different levels, representatives from universities, NGOs, agriculture and municipalities, with the support of the platform’s developers, explored the tool’s capabilities and provided valuable feedback to improve the user experience.
