On 26 November 2025, Vilnius will host the Green Governance Day – a high-level gathering of municipal leaders, policy-makers, and experts from across the Baltic Sea Region and Europe to advance the dialogue on sustainable public governance.
The event will serve as a platform to promote green governance as a key political priority, highlighting how public procurement, policy innovation, and municipal leadership can accelerate the green transition.
Vilnius is proud to be a platform for green dialogue – a place where leaders, experts, and decision-makers meet to exchange ideas and create solutions for a more sustainable future. As a city, we believe that true progress happens when innovation meets collaboration. Hosting the Green Governance Day gives us an opportunity not only to share Lithuania’s own experience in driving the green transition, but also to learn from our partners across the Baltic Sea Region and Europe. Together, we can turn ambitious policies into tangible results that benefit our communities and the environment we all share.” — Valdas Benkunskas, Mayor of Vilnius.
The Green Governance Day will feature keynote presentations from European leaders, policy discussions, and case studies showcasing practical examples of Green Public Procurement at national and municipal levels. Sessions will explore innovative procurement models, hazardous substance management, and award-winning examples of sustainable construction. The day will close with the NonHazCity Building Policy Award Ceremony and a networking reception bringing together high-level participants and thus celebrate the winning policies.
In times when sustainable governance is no longer optional, regional cooperation is our strongest tool. The Green Governance Day in Vilnius will prove that together, we can turn policy into action,” said Heidrun Fammler, Managing Director of the Baltic Environmental Forum Germany.
Participation targeted at senior municipal officials, heads of public procurement units, and representatives from relevant institutions and networks across the Baltic Sea Region and Europe.
The Green Governance Day is organised with the support of the INTERREG projects NonHazCity3 and ChemClimCircle2, whose partners aim to strengthen cooperation, exchange knowledge, and increase the visibility of innovative solutions for a greener future.
