On 2nd November 2022 experts met at the Nexogenesis project 2nd workshop on water-energy-food-ecosystem (WEFE) interlinkages in the Lielupe River basin and policy instruments for resource management. The main aim of the event was to present and validate the conceptual model of WEFE Nexus interlinkages and to introduce cross-sectoral integration of policy goals. Application of System Dynamics Modelling (SDM) for WEFE nexus analyses was introduced. One of the benefits from utilization of SDM is that even the policy changes, the model can still be used and adapted to analyze implications on sectors.
Participants of the event represented institutions from all WEFE sectors. During the discussions important and influential policy instruments on water, energy, food and ecosystem sectors were identified. Valuable ideas and thoughts from stakeholders were obtained, discussions were active and reflected views from the perspective of farmers and nature protection experts, wastewater association representative, municipalities etc. Suggestions for further cooperation and information exchange were provided.
