We recently had the pleasure of hosting the NEXOGENESIS project’s Final Annual Meeting in the beautiful city of Jūrmala!
During the intensive agenda and productive work sessions with our 5 Case Studies, work package leaders, and project partners, we evaluated our achievements and concluded that in some areas we are even exceeding KPIs.
Some of our CS achievements we do want to share:
- The NExus Policy Assessment Tool (NEPAT) has been adapted to local needs through a process of co-creation with stakeholders in the Case Studies.
- A broader nexus perspective – We moved beyond just water issues by integrating water, energy, food, and ecosystems into a holistic approach.
- Feedback loops between local and national stakeholders have been established to improve coordination and decision-making.
- Tiered stakeholder engagement – We developed flexible, multi-level strategies to involve different types of stakeholders in each country, from deeply engaged experts to broader interest groups.
We concentrated on improving NEPAT’s functionality to make it intuitive to use, effective in assessing WEFE nexus policies, and supportive for policymakers and stakeholders in making better-informed decisions. Conversations also highlighted its strong potential for wider-scale applications in the future.
A big thank you to our dedicated key stakeholders from Latvia and Lithuania for their valuable involvement and fruitful discussions during the plenary session!
To wrap up the meeting, we conducted a study visit. We learned about the management of the Lielupe River coast in the Bauska region and explored floodplain meadows in Jelgava. At the farm “Mežacīruļi,” we witnessed a great example of sustainable farming and learned how a constructed wetland — the Nature Based Solution — helps manage water wisely and effectively.
Activity organized within the frame of HORIZON2020 project “Facilitating the next generation of effective and intelligent water-related policies utilizing artificial intelligence and reinforcement learning to assess the water-energy-food-ecosystem (WEFE) nexus” (NEXOGENSIS, Nr. 101003881)
